About ZdC

USC Cinema

Zero de Conduite

Welcome to ZdC, the Critical Studies graduate student organization at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. It is our hope that our presence will facilitate communication not only between the organization and students, but amongst students as well.

Critical Studies is the school's largest division, and ZdC is here to sponsor professional development and interaction, to promote social interaction among Critical Studies graduate students, and make it a little easier for all of us to understand what kind of scholarship is being conducted at the School of Cinematic Arts, where there are currently over 30 doctoral candidates in the Division of Critical Studies. Along with students in our M.A. program, the women and men here are involved in a wide range of topics.

If there's an area of research that interests you, or you want to know what life is like for a graduate student, feel free to contact the graduate student listed. The list of current students and their interests can be found here.

We also host annual graduate student conferences, which aim to bring together graduate students from around the country and the world to engage in discourse around an issue relevant to the current state of Cinema Studies. Last year's conference, Deaths of Cinema, was a rousing and well-attended success, featuring nine excellent papers, a sparkling keynote, and a fascinating screening.
